The TIDE Project information for Parents & Carers
Fri 06 Nov 2026
Outwood Academy Freeston is taking part in research led by the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) to explore how lesson recording and technology can support early career teachers.
As part of this research, teachers may record themselves teaching at the front of the classroom. Cameras will be pointed at teachers only. Recordings will be stored securely for 30 days and then automatically deleted.
Researchers may keep a written version of the recording (called a transcript) for research. Computer tools are used to automatically remove detected names and other identifying details, and trained reviewers check for anything that may have been missed before transcripts are retained for research.

If you have any questions, please contact Catherine Allsop via the enquiries email: enquiries@freeston.outwood.com
If you would prefer recordings from your child’s class not to be used for research, please email business-managers@groups.freeston.outwood.com with the subject “NIoT Research: Please remove my child’s class” and include your child’s name.
If any child in a class is withdrawn, recordings from that class will not be used for research but may still be used by teachers to support early career teacher development.
