I hope that all in our community had a wonderful, if not quiet, Christmas break and new year. As you know we have started our new term in lockdown, something none of us would have wished for and yet it is vitally important that we all follow the rules to support safety.
Our academy is closed to students except for children of key workers (when they are at work) and those who are vulnerable. Staff are extremely busy supporting these young people in the academy and with supporting all other students with their online learning via Google Classroom work and live lessons. Feedback from live lessons is outstanding, those 20-40 minute lessons are vital to students in keeping contact with us, hearing from subject specialists and being part of their continued progress. Please ensure that all students join these on time. Of course outstanding behaviour is a given.
You will have heard that exams in the summer will not be taking place in the usual way. It is absolutely vital that Year 11 students do not give up. Teacher assessment is supported by ongoing evidence of knowledge and understanding. All Year 11 students should be continuing to give 100% to their studies to ensure that we have the evidence to put forward the best grade possible. As we know more from OFQUAL as to how this will work we will update you.
On our website there is now a link underneath the main menu for anything Covid-19 related. All letters, documents etc are now here. We will also post anything we feel will support students to learn at home. Today we have added to the site a troubleshooting top tips document, a link to a dedicated support site (https://homelearning.outwood.com/) plus all the weekly overviews for online learning for the following week including a whole academy overview. However, if you have any issues please make contact with us.
We also started our new term with amazing news. We have been awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark. A true testament of the passion and amazing work which everyone does every day (including during lockdown) to support all in our academy. We are immensely proud of this. More on this to come soon.
Wellbeing for all is vital at this time. A reminder that there is the green button on our website taking you to https://www.freeston.outwood.com/mental-wellbeing and our own support site https://wellbeing.freeston.outwood.com/ please use these and share with others as required.
Over the coming weeks I look forward to sharing with you how our learning continues and to praising our super students.
Take care and stay safe
